Eugene Chislenko: Akratic Belief
Akratic belief (df): beliefs one believes one should not have.
Scanlon: akrasia can be caused by various failings: sensitivity to evidence vs. dogmatism, recall vs forgetting, conviction vs lack of, reporting vs denial, further reasoning vs not understanding implications.
Example: Juliet sincerely believes in racial equality, but still believes the blacks she encounters are inferior. But she does not believe two contradictory beliefs. Her beliefs stop each other from fully manifesting themselves.
Comments: Akratic belief seems impossible but Chislenko explains how it’s possible. Can akratic beliefs be occurrent at the same time?
